1. The Right Fit
To ensure you have chosen the best size Cool Coat™ to fit your dog, three key measurements are required.
Back Length
Neck Circumference
Chest Circumference
It is important you take the time to measure correctly. It may take two people to complete these measurements. We offer ten sizes to fit the majority of breeds.
2. Measuring Steps
Stand your dog squarely with their head up and looking forward when you are measuring. Your measurements will not be accurate if your dog is sitting or lying down when being measured.
Use a soft tape measure (or string) and follow the curves of your dog’s body. If you are using a string you’ll need to measure the length of the string against a straight ruler.
Back Length
Start measuring from the point where the dog’s neck joins the body (base of neck) to the point where the tail joins the body (base of tail).
Typically the coat length should be the same length or 1 inch shorter than your dog’s back. A dog with a 16” length back normally wears a size 16 coat. A dog with a 17” back usually wears a size 16.
Important Note: This is a general guideline as sizing varies by breed and within a breed. Please check the Sizing Chart carefully before ordering.
Neck Circumference
Measure the circumference around the thickest part of the neck.
It is important when ordering to ensure the neck opening is large enough to fit comfortably over your dog’s head.
Chest Circumference
Measure the circumference immediately behind the front legs and around the deepest part of the chest.
3. Choose Size
Choose Cool Coat™ size based on your dog’s back length, neck and chest measurements. View the Sizing Chart to help you determine the best size Cool Coat™ to fit your dog.

Please note that our cool coats fit most breeds. For difficult-to-fit breeds, the most important measurements are the neck and chest circumference. Even if the cool coat is a little short or a little long (the coat can easily be folded under) it will still be very effective at keeping your dog cool.
When you receive your coat… please fit the Cool Coat™ on your dog first without soaking the coat. Keep in mind the Cool Coat™ will expand by approximately 1″ in length once it is wet. If the size you purchased does not fit your dog, click here for instructions.
